Amendment 2

A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed


This amendment specifically states that it is the right of the people to keep and bear arms. This amendment over the years has become controversial because of the incidents in many cities across the United States. In the beginning, the framers distrusted the mercenaries and federal government. Thus, this amendment was a check or protection if you will, on government power. 

This video is a great example of a public opinion of the second amendment and many laws put forth by the government, nationally and locally for "public safety" as Wiess states.
